Without proper consideration, metis can easily be labeled as a negative technique used for trickery and deceit. Borrowing from this digital history on metis page, Detienne and Vernant state, "Certain aspects of mêtis tend to associate it with the disloyal trick, the perfidious lie, treachery—all of which are the despised weapons of women and cowards."
To fight this stereotype, I submit the importance of harnessing metis for productive use. Part of the argument behind the intent of this piece is to educate and share the concept of metis as a productive knowledge that is crucial in our growing, global economy for all people but especially those who are oppressed or underrepresented to take control of a situation and fight the good fight.
Further intentions for this section will deal head-on with ethical questions surrounding metis and its practice. To submit your questions, please email me: lmczarne [at] mtu [dot] edu.
